HavMain is celebrating after receiving a high profile recognition for its staff recruitment, training and development programmes. The company has been awarded Investors in People status to mark its commitment to training and development and best practice.
Previously the company was accredited for SD Fire Alarms, the Fire Safety Engineering department. "This is an important step for the company and we are very proud to have achieved this recognition. This is a great news following on from the Workforce Development and Overall Best Devon Business at the 2009 FSB Devon Business Awards." Stephen Havill, Managing Director.
Investors in People is all about business improvement. Their approach can transform an organisation's performance by targeting it's chosen business priorities. Those that achieve the standard have proven they have taken effective action to improve the performance of the organisation through its people. The assessment was held on site in early July and a selection of the workforce were interviewed in confidence to assess their opinions of the working practices and their involvement. The Directors were delighted with the feedback they received with comments including: "Staff are impressed by the level of training and development provided and spoke about how this adds value to the job and the company, as well as increasing staff motivation." "Staff enjoy working for the organisation and talked about how things had improved greatly. They also spoke about the good teamwork and how everyone is helpful and supportive." Stephen Havill, Managing Director HavMain, said: "Over the past two years, we have completely revamped the way we recruit our people, rewritten job descriptions, carried out skills audits and introduced performance appraisals with a clear focus on training and development. "Our workforce development strategy was developed in conjunction with our business plan so that training is no longer an ad-hoc activity but is clearly linked to corporate aims and objectives and addresses the personal objectives of our staff. "Achieving Investors in People recognises the work we have done in terms of training and developing our staff, and provides an effective framework to bring about the desired culture change throughout the company. The standard also offers the opportunity to review current training and development against best practice. It provides an accurate audit of current strengths and weaknesses, a framework for planning future strategy and action, and a structured way to improve the effectiveness of training and development activities." The IIP Standard was developed during 1990 by the National Training Task Force in partnership with leading national business, personnel, professional and employee organisations, such as the Confederation of British Industry and the Trades Union Congress.
